An adventure tour in 4x4 vehicles. It takes us from La Paz to the Sajama National Park to climb a mountain of 6000 meters. It is not necessary to have previous experiences in mountains of 6000 meters. This trip is recommended for those who want to discover the hidden Bolivia, experiencing all the emotions of a genuine expedition in the Andes and with the maximum possible comfort. There are no nights in tents or strenuous climbing days.

The journey begins in the bustling city of La Paz, where we pick up you at your hotel. Today we cross the Bolivian plateau, with typical landscapes of the high-altitude steppe and groups of llamas and alpacas peacefully grazing on the mountain slopes.
In the afternoon we arrive at Sajama National Park and to our lodge in Sajama Village. We still have time to discover the little town on foot and admire the 6000 meter mountains that surround it. They are the Parinacota and Pomerape volcano, and the highest summit of Bolivia, the Sajama volcano.
Next day, we will boost our acclimatization with a 3 to 4 hours easy hike to the local geyser. Afterward, time to enjoy the hot springs. By the third day we will be ready to climb the Acotango volcano with its 6052 meters high. From the summit
The fourth day we will return to La Paz, following the international route that connects Arica (Chile) with La Paz (Bolivia)

Adventure overland trip, with hikes and climbs. The Acotango Volcano is technically easy, it takes three hours to get to the summit and other two to get back to the vehicles. A good physical shape is a must, but no need of precedent experience in similar mountains.

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: LA PAZ – SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK
Departure from the hotel at 8 am. Today we travel the Bolivian plateau, with its distinctive landscapes, flora and fauna. We will stop from time to time in local villages. In all, it takes 5 hours to travel to Sajama, an Andean village with a Quechua population located in Sajama National Park. Our hosts, Ana Maria and Mario, await us with a typical local dinner, based on quinoa and llama meat.Lodging: Hut at Sajama village, AnaMaria 3.700m/12,140ft

Day 2: SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK - ACCLIMATIZING HIKE
We start our hike at the village and head towards west, following the far away little smokes we see at the foothill of Pomerape and Parinacota, the two 6000 meters peaks located at the Bolivian/Chilean border. It is and easy 4-hour guided hike. It will boost our acclimatizing process and give us the chance to appreciate the glaciated mountains, among them the impressive Sajama volcano. The hike ends in the Sajama hot springs, where you can choose to enjoy a swim in warm water with a fantastic view of the Sajama volcano.Lodging: Modest Hotel at Sajama, AnaMaria 3.700m/12,140ft

Day 3: SAJAMA VILLAGE - ACOTANGO CLIMB - SAJAMA VILLAGE
The day begins with an hour-long transfer by 4WD, to reach an altitude of 5400 meters at the foohill of the Acotango volcano. The climb is a walk without technical difficulty. The first part proceeds along a path on volcanic soil and then continues on a glacier that could be covered with penitents but without crevasses. Within 3 to 4 hours we will have reached the summit. The return to the car waiting for us where we left it takes another 2 hours. At about 4 in the afternoon we will be back in our accommodation.Lodging: Modest Hotel at Sajama, AnaMaria 3.700m/12,140ft

Day 4: SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK - LA PAZ
Today we drive back to the city of La Paz. The journey continues taking the international road that arrives from Chile and takes us to La Paz, in 5 hours of travel on an asphalt road. At arrival to the city, transfer to your hotel and end of our services.Lodging: Not included
