Llullaillaco Volcano Climb
Llullaillaco Volcano Climb
An overland/mountaineering tour supported by 4x4 vehicles and with expert guides. It takes us from San Pedro de Atacama to the Tatio Geyser, to Lejia Lagoon and Lascar volcano. Once we have done some hikes and climbs and spent several nights over 4000m/13.000ft, our body has the proper acclimatization to go for more. We climb Pili volcano (6,046m/19,835ft) from Pili base camp. Next, we drive to Llullaillaco National Park and climb, with one high camp, the summit of this giant volcano, the fifth highest volcano in the world: Lullaillaco volcano (6,740m/22,113ft). Llullaillaco was an Inca sanctuary, and it is nowadays an archaeological site. The history of the Inca's climbs and sacrifices is written on this volcano summit and slopes. It is not mandatory to have previous experiences in mountains of 6000 meters. We recommend this expedition to those who want to discover the hidden Atacama, experiencing all the emotions of a genuine expedition in the Andes. Get ready for some great off-road driving.
13-Day mountaineering expedition in Chile
From: US $ 3,200.00
The journey begins when we meet you at the Calama airport and drive across the aridest part of the Atacama Desert. We travel towards the east, reaching San Pedro de Atacama Village.
The next three days, we discover San Pedro de Atacama surroundings. The journey goes through typical landscapes of the high-altitude steppe. You will see vicunas groups peacefully grazing on the mountain slopes. We build up strong acclimatization with easy hikes and climbs.
Then, we drive to the Lascar volcano area, where we camp at Lejia Lagoon and climb this active volcano after an exciting off-road drive.
In the next stage of the expedition, we move to the base camp of Pili volcano and climb this impressive perfectly conic mountain. It has a red lagoon on its crater, sometimes frozen.
Afterward, we drive to Llullaillaco National Park and settle our base camp at the mountain's foothill. The climb itself will take another two days, with one night in a high camp.
Finally, we will descend directly to the Pacific Ocean. In one driving day, we arrive at Antofagasta, where we will spend the night before taking the flight back to Santiago de Chile.
